The Foundation

The Herzog Foundation was established in 2002 based on the idea of making the approximately 300,000 photographs of the Herzog Foundation accessible to the public. This in the belief that such an immense wealth of information may only ever really be made accessible based on a public discourse.

The Laboratory of Photography is to serve an extensive discussion of the increasingly essential medium of photography. Thus, all interested parties may, on the basis of an extensive collection of samples (app. from 1839 till 1950) and the concomitant library, learn everything about the (inter)national history of photography and profit accordingly.
